Why Wichita

Picking a Neighborhood From 500 Miles Away

The move itself is the easy part. The hard part is deciding where to live in a city you’ve only visited for a job interview. Most relocating families either rent for a year and move twice, or buy fast in a neighborhood they’d never have picked with better information.

We’ve built in these communities for three generations. Tell us what matters to your family and we’ll tell you, plainly, which school districts fit, which neighborhoods suit how you want to live, and where your commute to Spirit, Textron, Koch, or McConnell actually lands.

And here’s the part that surprises people moving from Denver, Dallas, or either coast: Wichita’s cost of living sits below the national average. The custom home that didn’t pencil where you live now often pencils here.

From our homeowners

Built on Schedule, Even From a Distance

You'll be trusting a builder you can't drive past every evening. Here's what that trust looks like in practice.

From the design stage to move-in day we could not have been happier with Sharp Homes. This was the first time building a home for my wife and me. The entire process was smooth and on schedule, even when COVID was disrupting the supply chain. Other new builds in our neighborhood crawled along, but progress on our home stayed steady.

Craig and his team are excellent to work with. The laid-back attitude makes decisions easy, and you never feel like you are putting anyone out with a change. With all of that, they hit all of our timelines early.

Building from afar

How You Build a Home You Can’t Drive Past

Plenty of our clients start their build from another state. The process is set up so distance changes the logistics, not the outcome.

The long-distance build

Your Relocation Build, Step by Step

A build from out of state works the same as one from across town. It just starts with a video call instead of a handshake.

Relocation FAQs

Can we start building before we move to Wichita?

Yes, and most relocating clients do. Design meetings happen by video, selections are guided remotely, and 3D renderings plus photo updates keep you close to the project until you can be here in person.

Can you help us choose a neighborhood or school district?

Yes. We’ve built in communities across the Wichita area for three generations and know which school districts serve each one. Tell us what matters to your family and we’ll narrow the list.

How long does a custom build take?

Most Sharp homes take seven to nine months from groundbreaking to keys, and eight to twelve months from first sit-down to move-in. Design and selections happen up front, so the earlier we start talking, the better your move-in date.

What if we need a home sooner than a full build allows?

Look at our available homes: finished or under-construction homes you can make yours on a shorter timeline. Some model homes are also for sale.

What happens if something goes wrong after we move in?

Every Sharp home comes with a one-year warranty through ProHome and a 12-month defects liability period, on top of manufacturer warranties. We don’t disappear at closing.

Where does Sharp Homes build?

Throughout the Wichita metro and south central Kansas, in established communities or on land you own.
