Spring is finally here, and with the new season comes a spring home maintenance checklist! As you pack away the winter clothes and reach for the cleaning products, there are a few things to keep in mind when cleaning your home. Deep cleaning and preventive maintenance are not the most fun tasks, but a little time now can help prevent larger problems in the future. There are multiple sources for “cleaning solutions” and “spring cleaning” lists, but below are a few tips to get you started on your cleaning process. As you walk around your property look for any areas of concern that you can fix yourself or hire a professional to remedy. After a little sprucing up, your home and yard will be ready for the joys – and storms – of summer!

Outside the Home

  • Clean and inspect gutters for clogs/leaves and debris.
  • Look for missing shingles, cracked paint, siding, popped nails, and any cracked mortar damage.
  • Clean windows and repair damaged caulking
  • Check your gutters for leaks
  • Rake your lawn and flower beds
  • Remove dead plants and dead tree limbs
  • Sweep or wash your deck or patio

Inside the Home

  • Sweep and vacuum the floor of your garage and basement storage rooms
  • Spray for insects 
  • Switch out your air filter and check your sump pump
  • Clean and wash your windows with a microfiber cloth
  • Ensure windows and doors open smoothly.
  • Replace light bulbs
  • Dust and vacuum your living room
